Description
The story behind this fragrance
Магнолия (Magnolia) by Новая Заря (The New Dawn) is a Floral Aldehyde fragrance for women. Магнолия (Magnolia) was launched during the 1930's. The nose behind this fragrance is Auguste Michel. Top notes are Aldehydes, Bergamot, Neroli and Green Notes; middle notes are Ylang-Ylang, Orange Blossom, Jasmine, Gardenia and Geranium; base notes are Synthetic Civet, Amber and Musk. The Soviet "Magnolia" was produced at least since the 1930s, although judging by Winter's recipe, such a fragrance could well have been created even before the revolution (musk ketone was synthesized in the late 19th century, hydroxycitronellal in the 1900s) and passed to Novaya Zara in inheritance from Brocard. In the 1930s, along with Magnolia, a perfume called Extrait Magnolia de Soukhoum TEGE was sold - yes, like that, in French, with the expectation of export or foreign buyers. Photos of the fragrance and its description are provided by perfumery historian and collector Victoria Vlasova.
