The Marketplace

Marketplace terms & policy

Draft — pending legal review

1. What the Marketplace is (and isn’t)

The ScentSignal Marketplace is a listing board where members of our community offer fragrances for sale or trade, and post what they’re looking for. ScentSignal is not a party to any transaction. We don’t handle payments, shipping, escrow, or returns — every deal is arranged and completed directly between members, off the platform. We provide the board; members make the deals. Because of this, ScentSignal cannot guarantee any listing’s accuracy, any item’s authenticity, or any member’s conduct, and we are not liable for the outcome of transactions between members.

2. Who can use it

You need a ScentSignal account with a verified email, at least 7 days old. You must be at least 18 and legally able to enter into transactions in your jurisdiction. Members are limited to 10 active listings at a time.

3. Your responsibilities as a seller

You must own the item you list and describe it honestly — including its condition, fill level, batch information where known, and any damage. Real photographs of the actual item are required for sell and trade listings; stock or catalog images are not a substitute. Prices are listed in your own currency and are your own; ScentSignal does not set, convert, or endorse prices. When you agree a deal, honor it or communicate promptly if you can’t.

4. Prohibited items and conduct

The following will be removed and may result in a marketplace ban:

  • Counterfeit or replica fragrances — zero tolerance. Listing an item you know or suspect to be counterfeit, or describing a replica as genuine, is grounds for immediate and permanent removal from the Marketplace.
  • Items you do not possess or cannot deliver; listings created to advertise external shops or drop-shipping operations.
  • Fragrances recalled for safety reasons, and any non-fragrance items (the board is for fragrance and directly related items only).
  • Spam, duplicate listings, and price manipulation (e.g., fake seeking posts to inflate demand).
  • Harassment, pressure tactics, or abusive conduct in listings or messages.

5. Decants and partial bottles

Decants (fragrance transferred from an original bottle into smaller vials) and partial bottles are permitted with full disclosure:

  • The listing must clearly state that the item is a decant or partial, the fill amount, and the original fragrance and concentration it was drawn from.
  • Decants must be sold in plain, unbranded containers. Do not imitate, reproduce, or reuse brand packaging, labels, or logos on decanted items.
  • The seller is responsible for accurate representation of the juice — batch, age, and storage conditions where known.
  • ScentSignal does not verify decant authenticity. Buyers should weigh seller history and ask questions before committing.

6. Messaging

Marketplace messages exist to arrange deals. Don’t use them to spam, harass, or solicit members for unrelated purposes. Messages are private between participants; our moderation team can only view a conversation when a participant reports it.

7. Reporting and moderation

Every listing and conversation can be reported. Our team reviews reports and may remove listings, restore them, or restrict a member’s marketplace access. Marketplace bans affect buying and selling features only — your collection, reviews, and community participation are unaffected. Moderation decisions are made at ScentSignal’s discretion to keep the board trustworthy.

8. Privacy and safety

Share personal details (address, payment information) only when you’ve decided to complete a deal, and only through channels you trust. ScentSignal never asks for payment details and never intermediates payment. Be alert to common scams: pressure to move quickly, requests to communicate off-platform immediately, deals that seem too good to be true.

9. Liability and disputes

ScentSignal provides the Marketplace “as is.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, ScentSignal (registered as a Swedish AB) is not liable for losses arising from member-to-member transactions, including non-delivery, misdescription, or authenticity disputes. Disputes between members are between those members. These terms are governed by Swedish law; mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence remain unaffected where they apply.

10. Changes

We may update this policy as the Marketplace evolves. Material changes will be announced. Continued use after changes means acceptance.
